Established on 1994.06.10 as Apostolic Prefecture of Jimma–Bonga (Gimma–Bonga in Curiate Italiano), on territory split off from the Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte. Promoted on 2009.12.05 as Apostolic Vicariate of Jimma–Bonga.

EXTENT

The geographic coverage of the Apostolic Vicariate of Jimma Bonga includes; in the region of the Southern Regional State of Ethiopia, the whole Kaffa zone, Shaka zone, Bench Maji zone, Jimma
and some parts of Oromia bordering – the Apostolic Vicariate of Gambella and Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte, the Apostolic vicariate of Soddo the Apostolic Vicariate of Hosanna, and the Eparchy of Emdibir until Gibe River.

APPROXIMATE FIGURES

The population is estimated to be around 68,712 Catholics (1.4% of 5,068,000 total) with pastoral Centres of 55 parishes covering area of 57,000 sq. kms.
