The Church we want to be…

The Pastoral Ministries Coordination (PMC) of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia (CBCE-GS/ECS) supports the implementation of selected pastoral priority issues across all Ecclesiastical Jurisdictions. This plan includes a detailed one-year implementation framework for both the Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat and the Dioceses.

The CBCE-GS Pastoral Ministries Coordination seeks to empower the Church to live in solidarity with its people, acting as a force for forgiveness and reconciliation. It also focuses on equipping pastoral agents to help the Ethiopian Catholic Church remain vigilant and committed to its mission. This involves staying updated with Church teachings, as emphasized in the Bishops’ Pastoral Letter Do This in Memory of Me (May 2006, #15):

“As teachers of faith, we have the duty of keeping up our theological formation and of being constantly aware of the ongoing teaching of the Magisterium of the Church.”

The Coordination aims to strengthen the Church’s capacity to serve as a catalyst for both spiritual and social transformation. To this end, the National Pastoral Ministries Coordination Office will organize various capacity-building and ongoing formation programs at both regional and national levels for diverse groups of pastoral agents.

As part of ongoing formation, four national pastoral workshops will be conducted on key pastoral issues for various groups, including clergy, religious, catechists, laity leaders, couples, and women from the 13 Ecclesiastical Jurisdictions.

The CBCE-GS/ECS Pastoral Ministries Coordination will continue to disseminate and implement the detailed and result-oriented pastoral program for 2023/24. These efforts align with the broader ten-year Church-Wide Pastoral Strategic Plan (2023–2033), which was discussed and agreed upon by the 13 Pastoral Coordinators. Accordingly, the National Pastoral Ministries Coordination Office will be guided by the priority pastoral issues outlined in this strategic plan as it moves forward with implementation.
