Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia Welcomes New National Pastoral Coordinator

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia (CBCE) has appointed Rev. Fr. Abraham Gebremariam as the new National Pastoral Coordinator, effective August 14, 2025.

Fr. Abraham, a priest of the Diocese of Hossana, brings over two decades of pastoral and administrative experience to the Church.

Born in 1971 E.C. in Qechebira District, Hosana, Fr. Abraham completed his primary and secondary education locally before beginning his priestly formation. He first undertook a two-year preparatory program in Hosana and then studied Philosophy and Theology at St. Francis Theological Seminary in Addis Ababa, completing his priestly formation in 2003 E.C.

He later pursued advanced studies at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome, where he obtained a degree in Theology. He also earned a diploma in Law from Alpha University College.

Fr. Abraham began his pastoral ministry in 2002 E.C., serving as a parish priest in missions ranging from diaconate to Parish priest and later as a school director. Over the years, he dedicated himself to parish ministry and Catholic education.

In 2023 E.C., he was appointed National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Ethiopia, while simultaneously serving as Coordinator of the Pastoral Office in the Vicariate of Hosana. His new role as National Coordinator of the Pastoral Commission at the CBCE recognizes his long service and commitment.

In a congratulatory letter, Cardinal Berhaneyesus, President of the CBCE, expressed gratitude to Fr. Abraham for accepting the appointment and to the Diocese of Hossana for supporting his mission.

The General Secretariat of the CBCE warmly welcomed Fr. Abraham, wishing him blessings and success in his new responsibilities.
