Ethiopian Catholic Church Introduces Amharic Version of Synod Final Document

The Ethiopian Catholic Church has unveiled the Amharic translation of the final document of the Sixteenth Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, “For the Synodal Church in Communion, Participation, and Mission.”

The translation was formally introduced during a workshop held from November 10–14, 2025, at the Consolata Fathers’ house in Mojo, in the Archdiocese of Addis Ababa.

The event, attended by His Excellency Abune Tesfassilassie, Auxiliary Bishop of Addis Ababa, brought together diocesan Vicar Generals, leaders of Pastoral and Development Offices, catechists, youth representatives, and members of the laity. The program opened with a Mass and featured presentations on the Synod document, discussions on the role of the faithful in evangelization, and training aimed at strengthening awareness of the Synodal process.

According to Rev. Abba Abraham Gebremariam, National Pastoral Coordinator, the workshop successfully outlined future implementation priorities and strengthened the Church’s commitment to journeying together. He added that the gathering was particularly fruitful in addressing its key agenda items, including the inauguration of the Amharic translation of the Synod document, discussions on the role of the faithful in evangelization, and training sessions aimed at expanding awareness of the Synod’s message.

Furthermore, the workshop addressed the need for stronger cooperation and integration between the Pastoral and Development Offices, both of which form part of the conference. Participants received guidance on this collaborative approach, with particular emphasis on changes to guidelines within the school sector.

Participants affirmed their commitment to ensuring that all members of the Church can journey together as part of the Synod process and pledged to put this shared responsibility into practice.

Efforts are now underway through the various Church offices to distribute the translated document widely, working closely with the faithful to ensure it reaches all Church communities.

The Ethiopian Catholic Church has been actively engaged in the Synod process since 2021 at the diocesan, national, regional, continental, and universal levels.
