Catholic Caritas Ethiopia hold its 27th Ordinary General Assembly

Catholic Caritas Ethiopia (CCE), the coordinating office for the social and development activities of the Ethiopian Catholic Church, convened its 27th Ordinary General Assembly on March 27, 2026, at the General Secretariat.
The assembly opened with a prayer led by His Eminence Cardinal Berhaneyesus, President of CCE, followed by comprehensive discussions on key agenda items, including the 2025 Annual Performance Report, the Audit Report, the 2026 Operational Plan, and the ongoing rebranding of the organization.
In his opening message, His Eminence officially announced the renaming of the Social Development Office of the Ethiopian Catholic Church to Catholic Caritas Ethiopia. He highlighted the major accomplishments of the organization in the 2025 fiscal year across various sectors, education, health, humanitarian response, women empowerment, water works, migration, and returnees.
His Eminence emphasized the Church’s holistic approach, stating, “By empowering families, supporting livelihoods, and fostering resilience, we strive to ensure that assistance today becomes the foundation for dignity tomorrow.”

Mr. Bekele Moges, Director of Catholic Caritas Ethiopia, presented the annual report, noting that the Church implemented 207 projects in 2025, reaching 6.5 million Ethiopians with support totaling over 10 billion ETB. He attributed these achievements to the strong collaboration between the National Office, thirteen dioceses, and fifty-seven congregations. He also announced that the organization has planned 181 projects for 2026 with a budget of 6 billion ETB.
The assembly further discussed the adoption of modern technological solutions, including ERP systems, to streamline church services and address recurring administrative challenges.
The gathering was attended by Excellency Bishops, Vicar Generals, Board Members, Superiors, directors of partner organizations, representatives of Ethiopian civil society organizations, as well as senior leadership and staff from the National Office.
